Obviously they are stand alone, but I did feel a little pang that I didn't know the stories of some of the referenced couples.

So my first exposure to this series was this book, which is book 9 in the series. Have you listened to any of Greg Tremblay’s other performances? How does this one compare? The main characters is just a victim and is difficult to sympathise with. The story is essentially the movie “Pretty Woman” for gays but without the nuance and plot – or even less if such a thing were possible. Furthermore, all the supporting characters are essentially filled in with “quirky” – and that’s it. For someone to have a relationship with a prostitute, they ought to have at least some emotional or other baggage - not a prince in shining armour. Also, the way the characters react to the events of the story are unrealistic and ill-conceived.

The characters are unrealistic and one dimensional - either good or bad with nothing in between and no attempt to make them multi-faceted. Isn’t this supposed to be book 9 in a series? I would have expected something more unless this is a very quick cut and paste job. Other than the narration of this book which is excellent given it's Greg Tremblay, the story itself is woefully inadequate in the extreme. If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
